OK State of Mind

A couple of weekends ago Rachel and i traveled back to Rachel’s home town of Cushing, OK to surprise her Dad for his 60th birthday. We also got Rachel’s brother, Tyler, and his wife Amber to drive down from Wyoming and my family to drive up from Houston (Rachel’s dad and my dad share the same birthday).

We were waiting in the kitchen when Tyson got home from work on Friday night. We didn’t yell anything, just grinned at him. He did a double take, because for 18 years he was used to coming home and seeing his kids, then he realized that his kids live thousands of miles away and what in the world were they doing home. It was a pretty fantastic moment.

On Saturday we headed down south to the Choctaw festival (Rachel’s family is part Choctaw Indian). My parents met us there on the way to up to Cushing and surprised us by having my brother, Ryan in tow. Awesome surprises all around.

Over the next few days we spent a ton of time hanging out in Tyson and Cathy’s back yard, eating great food, drinking whatever was available, and enjoying each other’s company. We also did a whole bunch of bike riding around Cushing, which was a blast.

On Monday (Labor Day) we had a huge party out at Rachel’s family’s farm where we grilled brats and hot dogs, drank beer, played horseshoes, fished, and caught up with people we hadn’t seen in a while.

I could go on for a long time, but i’ve got a lot of blogging to catch up on today, so here are some pictures:
